What is the most fun thing you've ever done as part of camp training? We went on a historical ghost tour complete with "ghost hunter" costumes. What about you?

We take all of our staff to a water park at the end of training and do a BBQ. It's a good way to take a little time before the summer starts!

WOW! We've never done anything like that as part of training. Our training always just consists of a week long crash course in everything you need to know to be a good counselor. However, After training is over and before the kids come for the first session, staff has been known to do stuff on their own like floating down the river or going to a theme park. It's never part of training.
One cool thing they did one summer during training was when they had a massage therapist do a session on stress relief and many of the staff got mini massages. The funnest part of staff training I think is just being there and learning what you need to know while bonding with the staff. It's often the most anticipated week of the year and the start of some of the greatest friendships.

Oh little parts of training are always fun. Yea, getting up day after day and having your head crammed full of all sorts of stuff can get old..especially when you just to hang with the staf, but there are fun things hidden inside the training. One of those littles things I have to say was making paper airplanes to through at the director haha. Oh and also doing this activity with mouse traps..yea that was pretty entertaining...

At the end of Staff training we went out for Ice Cream- Which we didn't have to pay for :D Then we ended up going to Walmart because the A.D Staff needed to buy some stuff... It's funny how a week of training can turn going to WalMart into an outing. :P

LOL. We LIVED for Wal-Mart when I worked at camp in Virginia. That and our weekly trip to Ruby Tuesdays.

we have over 200 staff so its hard to do stuff like that but during precamp we soaped up wetsuits and went down our waterslide... got a good 30 feet more of air/skimming before i landed

30 feet, huh! We are located on a university campus so I imagine things like that would not fit within our risk management policies.
We also have a lot of staff so we try to find cool things to do on site, such as ultimate frisbee competitions, rubber chicken bucket ball, using our high ropes course, campus wide scavenger hunts, etc.
What other on-site things do you folks do?

When the staff are at camp without campers we sometimes tend to forget risk management... At the end of the summer we went running from the woods off the dock in the lake and swam to the middle of the lake. That was probably one of the funnest things we did. We did a lot of boating when we didn't have the campers on site- and jumped out of our canoes, we also had some crazy fun times just hanging out on breaks in the staff house. I think the most fun is had at camp- just being able to spend down time with your friends.
we had a cookout on the beach, had kickball/dodgeball/ ultimit games, and went on a canoe trip.

dodgeball is awesome! We dressed up in our teams of four and went at it every saturday night... it got old after a while, but the costumes are good for some fun and laughs.

Camper-Do you have pay phones or internet for you staff in camp or is just on their time off that they can use the phone?

campfriend- we have phones that you can use w/a phone card anytime you have any time off, whether it be a period off, night out, or day off. in certain situations, people can use my mom's line where you can get an outside line without using a phone card. we also have internet on a sign-up basis for time off. only international staff really use that though. obviously on time off, if you can find a cell to use your cell phone...good luck! lol you usually have to go about 15 minutes from camp in either direction to get cell service.
