tennis and waterfront have always been the most popular, skiing and climbing wall too! but i think the activities like campfires, all camp games, traditional events and OLYMPICS(some camps might have colour war...or similar) are the most exciting and special for the kids :)

Your camp has skiing? Wow. That must be fun!
And our camp has color war, as you mentioned. That's always fun. It's gets the kids really into the activites, even activities they normally wouldn't participate in. ;)

should i clarify and say water skiing??!
should i clarify and say water skiing??!
That must be fun too! Do the campers have to have their parents sign a waiver before they can do that, because I'd imagine that must be dangerous with little kids.
The flying fox is definately the most popular here - I can't remember how high it is, somewhere between 14-17m high. The water-based ones - kayaking, tubing, would be next. Canyoning is something they all moan about before doing, but once they've done it want to do it again and again. Archery is always a favourite.
What is ga ga?

Ga ga is a really fun game. I wrote an article about in the articles section. You can read it here (http://talkcamp.com/showthread.php?t=68).

all of the day camps that we draw our kids from play ga ga and the kids all talk about it, but we don't play it on our girls side yet (the boys play it). on girls side our most popular activities are tennis, the climbing tower/ropes course/zipline, swim, waterskiing, and the hobby center which has all different types of activities in it (candlemaking, silk screening, tiedying, sculpture, rocketry, cooking, indoor climbing, videomaking, ceramics) not to mention all of our special event days, especially color war.

You've got some pretty cool activites at your camp. Rocketry, videomaking, waterskiing. I don't think our camp does any of that.
Color war's a huge part of our camp as well.

For the older campers it's probably the climbing wall - the younger ones all seem to love swimming. We also have lots of horse programs at camp, and even though it's only the horse campers that get to ride the horses, it seems like every time horses or wranglers are mentioned, every girl in camp starts squeeling... so maybe horses is our favorite activity... (the non-horse campers can help feed or clean the horses, or just come out to look at them and pet them, if they're lucky)

Our horse programs are very popular, and probably the main thing running the camp. But for people who don't like horses, the most common favorite activities are probably swimming and arts and crafts. Though siesta (the rest hour after lunch) is a big favorite with everyone!

Aww I wish we had a rest hour. That would be great. :)

Wow you guys have paintball? That's awesome!
It also seems like rock climbing is pretty popular at all camps. Our camp just installed a climbing boulder. For counselors it's nothing, but for the kids it's so much fun. I think it's about 25 feet tall. The kids love to make it to the top and stand on the top of the boulder. It's also a lot of fun encouraging them to keep on climbing.

Sailing. Our camp is all about the sailing. We've finally got a fleet that floats (9 Sunfish and 5 Mercs on the pond, 2 JYs and 2 Hunters on the bay, and 12 windsurfers on the pond) and we're getting 2 more Sunfish for the pond and hopefully 2 420s for the bay this summer. So that will even more solidify the sailing! :) But our all of our kids, even the non-sailing crew love Me-Time (rest hour).

We have a water trampoline. My kids have never gone on it though since I've only been with 6 and 7 year olds. Oh well. It looks like fun anyway.

Ya the kids love paintball. And your Climbing Boulder seems cool. Our Climbing Tower is 65 feet and so I must say that it gets really tiresome Belaying them all, but they love it!

Our most popular activities are Rock Climbing, Ropes Course, Mountain Biking, Canoe/Kayak, Tennis, Farm and Barn and Surf Bikes(during lake time only). I think they like a lot of those because a lot of them have special trips that go along with them. I'm surprised so many of your said Gaga.. my campers are fairly unimpressed.

Ours would probably be water skiing and tubing, among those 11 and up who get to do it as an activity. Arts and crafts is also pretty popular as is dance, tennis, rocks. Horseback riding is really popular among the younger girls but less so with the older ones.
Surfing (on our calm lake) is popular as an elective or evening activity. Making smores is another favorite.
International Day and Color War are definately quite popular as well.
Water skiing and surfing? That's unique. Sounds like fun though! :P

Surfing is so fun, and made me laugh the first time I saw it listed as an elective. We're on a pretty calm lake, no waves to speak of unless it's windy enough to make little ripply ones. We take the boards from the windsurfing and some other just surf boards out and the girls stand up and try to keep their balance, and usually end up falling off. Sometimes if they're out with the party boat or another motor boat, they'll make us some little waves or you can catch the remanents of the skier's wake.

camper, you'll have to tell us how they like it. I'm sure they will. :)

Almost all the campers love the pool...it gets so hot out that it is really refreashing. The other activities are really a toss up...it all depends on the age and the camper. Most of the girls really love the horses and the younger kids enjoy aquatics a lot too (which im glad for but it makes me sleeply). Our high ropes are rather loved or loathed by the campers because it involves the whole hight situation. I had never heard of ga ga either. Maybe because im not a huge game fan (well i like most team work games) it seems not so great. then again im making a judgement on something ive neve done and just my opinion. i bet a lot of the younger campers would like it and so would the older guys.

I would love to know more about how a color war works. I have read about lots of camps doing that but I have never actually figured out how it works or what you can do. Any tips or helps would be great.
We had a counselor hunt last summer and all of the staff was very involved and it was alot of fun. The girls really had a blast.

It's kind of like an Education programme, but we don't call it that because we don't want to put the kids off. Last year, they redid the programme, and it worked really well. They did a lot of sound related activities, so they made a totem pole (each kid did one totem, and then the whole bunk made a pole), as the totem you choose is supposed to be the first sound you hear in the forest.
They did some sound games, like blindsman bluff etc, and made a textile board too.
The kids really enjoyed it.

Sounds cool. I am always looking for new ideas!
Our camp has a few educational activities. The kids aren't really turned off (except for the Israeli learning one). One of the activities, which was introduced a couple years ago, is called Little Scientist, which is obviously science. My bunk only had this three times. The first time the kids got little pots and they filled them with soil and grew plants, which they could take home in a few weeks. Another thing they did was make slime. That's always fun.
