Thought this might be of interest to you to at least read from WAGGGS-L a Girl Scout email list that I have subscribed to for a few years and I don't even read all the message all the time. Go here to sign up for WAGGGS-L http://www.iupui.edu/~sharrin/help.html
Girl Scouts of Gulf Pines Council http://www.gulfpines.org who was hit by Katrina is looking for volunteers or good camp staff you might like to share. Well after looking at pictures of camp on there web site I thought of how greatful and blessed am am in NJ between those pictures and stories I have heard about some people I know from Campus Crusade for Christ who went on spring Break relief trip to New Orleans.
Well I have decided to go and volunteer down there for a week and a half. So it looks like pending booking flights that I will leave NJ June 21 and come home July 1st. My mom is also going to come. She teacher public pre school and was a camp counselor for many years.
So just got to find the cheapest flight at airport not too far away.
This will my 1st experince since I was a kid at a resident camp so I am very excited!! [Smile]
Susan Yarrow Director of Program and Membership Girl Scouts of Gulf Pines Council who I talked to on the phone yesterday who will be running the camp seemed vary excited that we would want to come down and help. She said it looks like they will need me to do arts and crafts. I will be getting application in the mail in the week.

Subject: Council that was hit by Hurricane Katrina needs help!
This is from a professional GS list to which Ibelong. Can anyone help this council?
Carol Lee
Our council is located in south Mississippi where the eye of Katrina came ashore last August. All of our Girl Scout sisters have been wonderful by sending supplies for our girls.
We now need a different kind of help. Since the hurricane it has been very hard to get staff. We have lost about 8 staff members, and today our Outdoor Program Director quit (with no notice). Both of our camps were virtually destroyed and we have been working feverishly to get the camp in Meridian, MS up and running. The camp brochure is being printed as we speak. We are not able to offer all 7 weeks of camping this year, we were just going to have 3 weeks in June. It was taking everything we had to get it going and now we don't even have a camp director.
I am going to run camp, but my specialties lie in programming and membership. I need assistance with the outdoor activities. Do ya'll have any volunteers or good camp staff you might like to share with us? Our pre-camp will be June 7-10 with camp beginning June 11. We will run three one week sessions with the last week ending June 30.
If you have any suggestions or can possibly send someone our way, you will help the girls of South MS enjoy summer camp!
