I worked at a band camp one summer.. it was pretty amazing! The kids were SO talented!
All they wanted to do was 'jam' even when they weren't in classes, it was like we had to drag them to activities cause they just wanted to play music all the time.
At the end of the week they would have a concert. Even beginner band was so good, they learned a lot in one week!
Anyone else work at a music camp?

Band camp was sooooo fun. We didn't really have counselors though, we had room check every night but other than that we were pretty much on our own. At that point in time I was more concered with flirting with the cute 8th grade boys than playing music haha. We had like 3 dances every year and they were so much fun. Ooooh band camp. Good times.

oh band camp... apart from the fact that there's no good way to start those stories anymore (once upon a time, in a band camp far, far away?), it really doesn't get much better. we go to camp as a marching band every year to kickstart football season. seniors are in charge, alumni come back to give some direction. 9+ hours of rehearsal a day (plus morning golf tournaments for me), but it's a good time all around.

I have had bands that have come in and ran band camp. I have never been!

The one I went is put on by the local University every year and people come from all over the states and a few from overseas every year and stay in the dorms. So you aren't necessarily with your band. Summer band starts in August/ late July and that is when the marching band learns it's stuff. Next year will be interesting because they're moving up two grade levels to high school instead of just one. Poor directors.

No one can ever go to band camp and play the flute with dignity again. I would know.

ahahahaha actually.... I was on beginner band one week and we were allowed to learn an instrument with the campers... I played the clarinet in jr high so that was out.... so the other counselors reccomended the flute... I pretty much only learned how to put it together and hold it properly then my counselor duties pulled me away for the rest of the lessons... but still TOO funny! The teasing was merciless!!! hahahaha
ahh band camp...

I used to go to color guard camp! That was really fun. I also went to Orchestra camp... not really any supervision. (but i was ok with it then!)

I went to band camp in 7th and 8th grade, AND I played the flute. Fortunately for me, it was Loooong before American Pie. LOL
My band camp was not really "camp" it was just during the day for 2 weeks at an area high school. I did meet my first real boyfriend there though. He was a year younger and played Trombone. Ahhhh...the memories. When I saw American Pie, I kinda wished my band camp had been more like a real camp.
