I'm not going to be around over the next few days because of Passover and it's various festivities. Therefore I just wanted to wish all of you a happy holiday (whatever you celebrate) and for those of you who don't celebrate anything, happy long weekend!
I love this time of year because my favorite candy is jelly beans.... mmmmmmmmmmm so yummy.
Yeah, happy Passover or Easter to all of you here! :D

Thanks rach, I read the first one which was really interesting :)
I learnt about it ages ago, but had forgotten most of it: I remember an RE lesson drinking Ribena though and pretending it was wine!
I find the Jewish festivals really interesting: thanks for finding me the sites!

No prob, SImon! I was educated at Jewish day schools so I always find it slightly amusing when people ask what a jewish thing is...

Happy holidays everyone! (or happy long weekend)
I teach conformation class and we've been preparing for a while and tonight they presented the Way of the Cross to the community (that's the story of Jesus being crusified) they did SUCH a wonderful job!!!
I was soooo proud of them. A bunch of grade 10 kids taking it so seriously and being so respectful and the talent!- acting, singing, reading, and all the crew work!!!!
I just wish more ppl would take the time to voulenteer with teenagers rather than painting them all with the same brush and saying how 'bad' they are.
But I know I'm "preaching to the choir" eh? hehehe ok, sorry no more church jokes :P
That's my rant for today!! hehe

Ooooh conformation classes.... the first two years were awesome and then we got a new pastor. Who I don't like one bit. He wouldn't even give me a reference for camp because my denomination doesn't support Girl Scouts. Anyway, my point is bravo for your sucess with your group!

Excuse my ignorance, but what is confirmation? What are you Confirming anyways?

Hahah sry i couldn't think how to spell it. You are confirming your faith and when you are done you are seen as an adult and an official member of the church. It also means you can join in communion. It's a class that lasts anywhere from a few weeks to three years in my case and possibly more in other churches. You go to class with the other kids your age in the church and learn what it means to practice your religion. At my church we went through the bible first year, and Luther's Catecism(sp?) second and third years. We also had to do things like memorize the 10 commandments and the books of the bible in order. And other stuff I have since forgotten. We had homework every week and everything.

In the Catholic Church, it's something that's pretty compulsory, and is one of the sacraments, and is about making the transition from childhood to adulthood in the Church.
In the Methodist/Church of England tradition, it is voluntary, and is treat as a kind of public commitment to the church.

Haha mine was not voluntary. I think my dad would have disowned me if I hadn't gone through it.

If your Protestant, depending on what branch (I'm United, which only Canadians would probably even know what that is) it's what you do when you reach grade 7 (so your like 12 or 13), and it only lasts a few weeks. We went and saw Titanic the year I was confirmed. No homework, or anything like that. It's the "answer" to your baptism - when your parents agreed to raise you in the church, and your confirmation is basically saying that they did it. I also had to go, it was not voluntary.
I'm UCC and we never had homework but we did have to write a statement of faith that was used in the sermin during our conframation.
