Letters from Camp is a series (http://www.talkcamp.com/showthread.php?t=555) of fictional letters from 'Camper', an eleven-year-old writing home to his parents about his first summer at camp. He is in the youngest unit, aged between 10-12 years old.
Hi Dad,
OK, so you were right. These guys are OK, and not like the other boys at school. We’ve had some good times, but they are still annoying sometimes though.
We’ve all been working together and earning Wonka Points. They’re called that because our bunk is decorated like ‘Charlie and the Sugar Free Chocolate Factory’. I think that’s Jon trying to be funny. Anyway, we get points, and they move Charlie Bucket along, and every time we get 10 we get a reward. Usually we get to vote from two, but this time they decided to surprise us. They got some face-paints and some treats and made us banana split, which were pretty cool, I suppose.
The other cool thing we did was an evening activity. Pete has a day off and an evening off, and when he does, Simon does his job: Simon is Vice-Pete. Anyway, Simon has to plan these activities. For this one he chose ‘The Wonderful World of Roald Dahl’. Even though that doesn’t sound that interesting, it was actually quite good. Roald Dahl wrote loads of books, and Simon says he is one of his favorite writers. We went round and did four activities each based on a different character –including Grandma! I hope I can read some of his books when I get home.
Camper
Letters from Camp is based at Summit Camp, Pennsylvania. Summit is a camp for children with emotional, social and behavioural difficulties, such as ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, or juvenile on-set bi-polar disorder, and has a no-sugar food policy.
