Letters from Camp is a series (http://www.talkcamp.com/showthread.php?t=543) of fictional letters from 'Camper', an eleven-year-old writing home to his parents about his first summer at camp. He is in the youngest unit, aged between 10-12 years old.

Hi Mom,

I got your letter, and Oma sent me one too, but her card had horrible puppies on it! Yesterday, we had Discovery with Shirley-Pat and she has bright red hair! We’re making a bunk totem pole –we each make one animal and make a tower. We’re doing it because Shirley-Pat is half Indian, even though she doesn’t look it. I think I’m going to do a leopard, because I like running or an ape because they’re really cool.

Today we went on our first trip day. We went to the bowling alley, where we had to wear the worst shoes. Jack kind of freaked out when he lost, but don’t worry, even though it was a bit scary, I’m still going to be his friend. He shows me the coolest magic tricks. He had to go have a time out, and missed most the game, so Nicole took his go. He looked so mad. I hope I don’t look like that when I get angry.

Can you send me a package?

You know, I loved the part about sending a package. Cause, thats all kids want some times, a chance to show off what they've received to the rest of their new friends, or the knowledge that their parents haven't forgotten they exist and are thinking of them. I had one camper who got like, a single piece of mail the whole summer from her parents. It was heart breaking, especially when some of the girls were getting huge packages and parcels on a daily basis.

Sparkes, at the overnight camp I would work at, the staff would write anonymous letters to campers who didn't get a lot of mail (or who's parents lived overseas, etc)... The campers would get sparkly envelopes with mysterious writing with bracelets and hair clips inside, along with various other things.

Aaaah! Everyone needs to post some stuff to Melk!

I don't get much compared to the campers either, just the occassional letter from my parents, because it has to come such a long way!

I harass my friends before I go away to send me stuff in the post. Plus, I have my birthday over the summer, so that helps.

You guys should do what I started (providing your office staff is as cool as me!) - I started intercamp mail for staff, so we can write each other letters and get something in the mail. It was actually really fun, cause we started sending anonomous love letters to one another, all a joke of course, but the gossip it started when me and my co sent the first round of love letters! ;)

That's cool! We can send each other 'You're a Star' slips, to tell other staff when they've done a good job.

Having a birthday at camp is cool: I get a package from my parents with a little pressie and some cards, which I put them up my bunk, which is really nice :)

My birthday is during staff training every year too. Last year my friend woke everyone up at midnight screaming happy birthday to me... not everyone was happy about it... oops!

Seriously though, concerning writing post, is there interest in everyone exchanging addy's for the summer? Since we all won't be around cmoputers we could still chat the old snail mail way.

That sounds cool... who is going to volunteer to organise it? Do you want me to?
