I have some questions about travel camps. What types of places do you go? Do you travel for days at a time, do the trips only last a couple hours, or both?

my aunt works during the year as a supervisor to a JCC day camp/travel camp director just outside of nyc. the travel camp goes to places like boston, baltimore, cleveland, cape cod, etc. they travel on coach buses. their itineraries are all done by a travel company and the trips last 2-4 days. during the other times the kids join the day camp for regular day camp stuff.
I think our JCC travel camp went to Cleveland as well. I just remember one of the kids on my bus talking about it.

We run field trip cams.. The are just out for the day!! We also do some 3 day trips with our campers. We take them rock climbing and snorkling out of state. It adds to our day cam program!

You're lucky your camp does field trips for the day camp. We don't do any (except for the late stays, but that's only once per summer).

The kids love field trips, but they are a pain for the staff. Keeping track of kids at your site is one thing. When you are in a big city it's another!!!

I agree it must be difficult. And if they get hurt or something, that's another issue.

We are not a "travel camp" persay- but we do some GREAT trips! We have:
-White water rafting
-Bowling
-Overnight (regular 2/1 or 3/2 for older kids)
-Amusement part
-Arcade/Game Center
-Nature Museum
-Water fall
-Roller Skating
-Biking trips
-Canoe/Kayak trips
-Rocks trips/competitions
-Singing trips
-Movies
-Ice Cream Parlor
-Atlanta/Charleston (the oldest age group- 3 day trips, get to do some REALLY cool stuff)
Not everyone goes on all of these trips- the first 4 are standard and almost everyone goes on those- but the rest depend on how old you are, what activities you take daily, if you are session or season. It all depends. I think there are more trips I'm leaving out.

Loofa, If you are with the older kids and ever camoe to Atlanta let me know!
I might suggest to our camp directors we take a field trip this year. I think it would be a lot of fun.

Our day camp goes on a field trip one a week. im not exactly sure where all they go but it has to do with whatever the theme is for that week. One (out of 2) of the oldest group of campers for our overnight camp go off site also. they go a canoe trip and then camp out that night before going rock climbing. i did once as a camper and it was soooo much fun. i think when you leave the camp site with camp people you really get to realize how good friends/close you have gotten with those people. what a wonderfule feeling!

We have an adventure camp program where the kids sign up to go on different trips. Some of the trips include white water rafting, disneyland, knottsberry farm, universal studios, really awesome hikes, california adventures, YMCA surf camp, and lots of other cool places.

We aren't a travel camp, but we do have a trips program. Our trips include canoeing trips, backpacking trips, biking trips and horseback riding trips. It's a girl scout camp, and we don't go to "fancy" places like amusement parks, and we sleep in tents. I've only ever been on one trip (I had a two-week mountain biking unit last year), but it was awesome.
The trips are for the older campers - but we have programs for younger campers to sort of "prepare" for trips - in-camp biking program, in-camp canoeing program, in-camp hiking program, and so on... many of these kids go on overnights out of camp and almost all go on day trips, so I guess they could be counted as "trips" as well.

Many people prefers to have travel camp late afternoon. Mountains and beaches are mostly the places to have a good camp.
