Just one, but next year I'm thinking I might consider trying a new one and see what it's like to work at a big, coed, non girl scout camp. I'm not sure yet, it's hard to leave the camp you grew up at!

I have worked at 3 different camps. I tried a different Girl Scout by request of the Diresctor and some of my friends that were going. I worked at a day camp as a volunteer to help out and I am finally back to my home away from home Camp Scherman

I worked at the local JCC day camp, Camp Shalom, for a summer because I was too young to be staff at my overnight camp. But in 2004 I switched to my love , my heart, Blue Star!!!

I was an arts and crafts (yuck!) counsleor and gengeral counsleor for two years at vacation bible camp.... It was only for a week and I only did it cause I was bored and needed something to last me untill summer camp.
But only 1 sleepaway camp... and I love it.

2.. Two summers ago I worked at a Girl Guide camp and it sucked a lot because the CD's were just.... ridiculous and the staff was treated like garbage and we didn't get to work the whole summer because they hired too many staff.

Anyways, that's why I switched. I picked the camp I'm at now by.. chance. I applied to a few camps, and it's a fabulous miracle that they hired me. And they hired me first, that's why.

Just the one, and I'm not leaving it, despite having friends from home go to neighbouring camps. I love the other couselors, senior staff, and campers, so I wouldn't consider leaving.

I'm on my second... I worked at the first camp for 4 years, and loved the majority of my time there. But now I'm feeling like I have been undervalued and underappreciated, and so, it's time to move on. I may go back to the first camp (which is a day camp) in a few years, once I get myself settled down a little bit.

I've worked at 2: first a residential (went there as a camper then moved to counsellor) and then a day camp. I switched mainly because I had a bunch of stuff that needed to be done at home over the summer that year. Plus, my last year at the residential camp we had new directors who changed things around and took out certain things that I wasn't too happy with.

Okay, I'm at my third...

First summer, I worked at my home camp I grew up at. I had some issues with how it was run and filed a "complaint" at the end of the summer. This resulted in me not being asked back... Whoops? It was best for me in the long run though - I got a new camp AND I knew I did my part to keep the campers safe and the staff happy.

Second camp - Swapped to day camp for a season. Really enjoyed it, but totally missed the overnight aspect of resident camp. Had to take a summer off for school in between this camp and...

Third camp - This is my second summer there and I think I'm there to stay... They keep hinting about how old I am and giving me more experience in different aspects. I've been really involved with the ACA visit prep this summer and in creating the staff manual. I've also rewritten the CIT program. It's been a great experience so far!

I've only worked at one, but I figure sometime in the future I might (maybe maybe) try out another camp...the thing is I just can't imagen not going back to my one camp!!!

Six. My reason was sometimes transportation related, but usually the camp was coming to the end of its lease. I now have made a switch from day camps to resident camps, and also switched GS councils, so I think that is the end of losing camps. I am really glad though, that I have been able to experience a variety of camps because they are all very different.

How many years have you worked at camp?

Six years, I'm pretty sure. Most summers I worked at a couple of day camps. Some were only in session for part of the summer, so I went where I was needed most. I probably wounldn't have switched day camps if they hadn't have closed, but I always wanted to work at a resident camp, so once I could, I did. And I love it.:)

Sounds good. You seem like a directors dream with the ability to change if needed.
