Hey, does any one have any Canadian camps to recommend (preferably in ontario..) that would be willing/able to hire a staff in a wheelchair? I have 4 years experience at a special needs camp, both as a cabin counsellor and as an assistant in the office...
Any suggestions are welcome..

Did you check with the Ontario camping association job board? http://www.ontariocamps.ca/ocajobs.html. Also, though I work in the States, I've had friends who have said Camp Wahanowin (90 minutes north of TO) is an awesome place to work at - http://www.wahanowin.com/

the fact that she's looking for a camp, means that she's not working at the camp we worked at together last year.
i've since talked to her about this.
sorry for the connnnfusion!

Sparkes: Yep, I follow the job board faithfully, just checking to see if anyone has worked at a camp in ontario that they would recommend to me, as last year I was frequently told that the camps I looked at were not accessible/could not handle a staff in a wheelchair.
Thank you for the suggestion of Wahanowin!
hehe and yes, Loofa, prettysock was reacting to me, lol sorry about that.

Saintly, good question. I was also going to recommend the OCA boards - they are generally up to date.
Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything... Actually, come to think of it, the day camp I worked at probably would hire you, since it's in a totally (well, 90+%) wheelchair friendly location.
PM me... And I'll give you details... BTW, where are you located (roughly)?

Oh, I guess I forgot to mention, it's going to have to be a resident camp, or at least a day camp that provides housing, I'm from a small town and have no transportation on a daily basis...but thanks runrachrunn

My friend worked at a Tim Horton's camp last summer and had a great time. I don't know if they're wheelchair accessible, but it might be food (or coffee... sorry couldn't resist!) for thought.
