Hey everyone!

I'm from Ohio and just applied to a bunch of Jewish overnight camps in the midwest area for the first time, so I've been checking out all the boards for a few weeks trying to get a feel for what it is like to work at a camp. This board has been so helpful, and I can't wait to have something to add!

I applied to six camps total:
Emma Kaufman Camp
Camp Harlam
Camp Wise
Camp Pinemere
Camp Towanda
Camp Chi

Has anyone ever worked at any of these? And thanks for the welcome!

towanda is near my camp, if its the same towanda, i'm not sure b/c you said you applied in the midwest and we're in PA, but if you go there maybe i'll see you at an intercamp!

I mean the Towanda in PA. I guess I consider PA more MidWest than East Coast...Anyway, I'll definitely post here if I get hired anywhere :)

Heya Drama Queen!
Welcome to the board... I haven't heard of any of those camps, but there are plenty of people on the board (myself included) who can give you the lowdown on Jewish camping...

Cheers.

I just got done with my interview, and it went really well! My interviewer said he just has to talk with the camp director, but that he thinks I would make an excellent addition to their staff. That seems to bode well.

Tomorrow I have an interview for Camp Chi. I think I will be less nervous now that I have that first interview under my belt :) Thanks for the support!

Yay for fortunate-sounding interviews! Sounds like you'll end up with a position you'll enjoy and be well suited for. Congratulations and good luck.

What camp do you want to work for the most?

I'm not quite sure at the moment. I asked a bunch of questions during my interview, and I want to ask the other camps the questions before making a decision. I'm leaning towards the three that are closest to me right now just for traveling reasons, and they are the ones I've heard about the most (Camp Chi, EKC, and Camp Wise). Right now, I'm just looking to get a job at any of them :)

Good luck with all three. I am sure that one will fit!

So time for an update: I've been offered jobs at EKC and Camp Wise, and I expect to hear from Camp Chi by the end of the week. Now the tough part: Deciding where to accept a job. Any advice?

I'm leaning more towards Camp Wise right now, because it is closer to my hometown (about 2 hours), so I could go home on my day's off. Plus, they said I could help the drama specialist with my age group's play, which I would love to do. The only minor thing I'm worried about is with the age group I requested, I would have to live in the soft-sided cabins; I'm slightly weary about this. Has anyone lived in those before? Is it really different from staying in the regular cabins? It's a pretty small factor, but I figured I should think about everything before I commit to a camp. Anyway, any advice would be more than welcome :)

I'm hired! I called today to officially accept a job as a cabin counselor at Camp Wise in Northern Ohio :) I'm so excited to be able to stop thinking about the application/interview process and start thinking about actual camp. I guess I can put up a countdown now... Eek!
