The Time Travellers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger is one of my all-time favorite books.

It's hard to believe but everything that I've read (that I own) has been by a man. My mind is actually drawing a blank on this one. Sorry :(

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. I read it when i was in like elementary school or junior high but it really isn't that low of a level book. It was really really good. In fact thinking about it makes me want to read it again...

Just thought of a good one actually -
The Giver -by Lois Lowry. We also read it in middle school, but i think that there are a lot of themes about social justice and making moral decisions, etc, that you could tease out. It's not that hard of a read too. Maybe 3 hours?

Anything by Margaret Atwood, but particularly Handmaid's Tale, which is really really good.
Annie Proulx's The Shipping News is supposed to be really good.

anything by Margaret Atwood. She's really imaginative, easy to read and brings out a lot of women's issues. Especially try 'The edible woman', 'the robber bride' or 'the handmaid's tale'.
audur- the time traveller's wife is in my 'read me' plie!!

Anything by Barbara Kingsolver is awesome. I have read a few and really like Animal Dreams. Shes also a huge activist and humans rights person so she would probably fit right in with your Womens Studies class.
I think the Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan is fiction. Thats real good.
I am sure I know tons more....but I am drawing a mental blank.
I'm reading short stories by Toni Cade Bambara. I know she wrote a novel too but I have yet to read it... The short stories that I have read are good so far.

I haven't heard of that one Rainbow.
I'd suggest The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley if you like fantasy at all. It's the story of King Arthur told from the viewpoint of the women in the tale. Very good book.

Ooh, what about the Bronte sisters? They used to live just near me, and I keep meaning to visit the museum, but still haven't round to it after almost 3 years!

My English teacher wrote her dissertation about the Bronte sisters. She is a tad obsessed. We're reading Wuthering Heights and she says she has read it about 35-40 times.... not so fun when you can usually just sparknote your way through the class.... tooooo bad.
