ummm lots of debbie friedman!!! but that's just for my bunk haha b/c one of my girls is obsessed w/her. we even did our lip sync to one of her songs haha. at our friday night service we sing Sabbath Prayer from fiddler on the roof and this song called the Opening Hymn which we've sung forever and i have no clue where it came from. that's the very little jewish influence thats in our camp besides the sh'ma, the motzi, the kiddush, mi chamocha, and adon olam. lol.

Yeah Rick Recht puts on concerts at our camp. We don't actually sing Jewish songs though. Well, we do sing sometimes at music, but they're just random Jewish songs that most people probably never even heard before (I know I haven't).

I know this is a tad :ot:, but I was wondering about some aspects of Judaism, and was wondering if you knew the answers? I ask, because my camp is Jewish, and at home we don't have the large Jewish community that you guys have in NYC etc.

Is there a reason why different people where the kippah/yamacuh(sp?) at different positions of the head? I've seen it on the crown, on the very top of the head almost touching the fringe, and right back.

Also, what is the difference between a kippah and a yamacuh?

As far as I know, I don't think there's any significance in the placement. The difference between the two names? I think they're different languages. I think one is hebrew and one is yiddish. I'm not totally sure though.

i think the placement on the head is just where it's most comfortable for each individual person, and yeah kippah is hebrew and yarmulke is yiddish.

a kippah is generally worn on the crown, but the way some peoples heads are shaped it won't stay so people move it forward- or some people use a clip to keep it on.. haha and some men wear them in certain places to cover their bald spots haha. there is really no significance in placement.

I just remembered that I have my UAHC songbook somewhere at my parent's house in my bedroom closet.... Next time I am there, I will dig it up.
