Situation Home sick camper/s
Effectiveness from experiences (results vary too much for rating)

This is part 2 of a multipart technique demonstrating the various ways to combat homesickness
Lets just assume that your camper already told you that they were home sick for the sake of this technique. Now we will have to assume that the child is saying they are homesick because they crave attention. Lets say that you already tried using Technique 4 and the child has gotten worse. Assume that you have done it correctly and the child is just difficult or didn’t respond well to it. If they seem to get worse after Technique 4 you may have to do the opposite. Yes, I am suggesting paying less attention to the child. DO NOT neglect or ignore them but simply don’t address the problem or give them any added attention. This will remove those who just say they are home sick to gain attention.

Ya I had a kid like that at my other camp that I worked at after pali for outdoor school. he played staff like that. when we did nothing he was not home sick. I told the kids to shout up and get back to bed when he tryed it to another staff and he was fine. the kids was just playing us

isnt it amazing how campers will do that?? i havent incountered that from experience but i know plenty of counselors who have. in fact i guess i sort of have done it. not really on purpose but i was worn out with the really home sick camper, plus i couldnt devote all my time and engergy to her...i had other campers. i dunno if i would have paid more attention all the time what would have happened but there are times i do leave the camper "alone" so to speak.
