I think that there are a lot of great camp movies out there. I think I have two that are my favorite: Meatballs and Poison Ivy. I know that most people have seen Meatballs but Poison Ivy is an old camp movie. It’s had Michael J. Fox in it.

What is your Favorite?

yeah a lot of camp books...there is even a whole series that just came out called Camp Confidential which is about a group of 11 year old girls at camp. they're for kids about that age but i've read them all they're really fun. then there's Sleepaway by Laurie Susan Kahn it's kind of like a scrapbook of girls all over the country who went to camp from like the 1920's...there are a lot of pictures and quotes from the girls as well as her own memories of camp. she came to my camp to talk about the book 2 summers ago, that was fun! Michael Eisner (the disney CEO) wrote a book about his camp experience as a kid, it's called Camp. And last but not least, a former camper/counselor at my camp who now writes for Sports Illustrated (his name is Seth Davis) wrote a book about my camp, it's called Equinunk, Tell Your Story and it's about a summer that he came back to be a counselor when he was 30 to follow a group of boys to write the book. it's a really fun read obviously for me, but i think any camp people would really enjoy it.

Those books sound good, I will have to read some of them. As for movies, the only camp movie I have seen is Wet Hot American Summer which is pretty funny. I watched it with my best friend (works at my camp) and her husband (my camp director) and we laughed and compared people in the movie to people at our camp- It was pretty fun!!

The Parent Trap always reminds me of camp... Heavyweights... oh! of course, Camp Nowhere!

As for books, I know the Baby Sitters Club went to camp in a special and the Saddle Club too...

I have to say I am happy my camp is not like that movie! I don't know how it would ever get like that. You have to love movie magic. I wonder how many parents have seen that movie and not wanted their kids to go to camp?

It Takes Two with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen begins at camp. There's also a really good episode of Full House centered around camp.

I love Indian summer. I just watched it last week! I also love Meatballs, but that shows the innappropriate side of camp, where as Indian Summer is more of a touchy feely movie. I also am reminded of camp from Parent Trap. And I enjoy the camp episode of Full House. I also like Wet Hot American Summer, Heavy Weights, and Camp Nowhere. And, Salute your Shorts is coming to DVD "soon." so that's exciting.

As for books, I've read a couple. I've read Sleepaway: The Girls of Summer and the Camps they Love, Sleepaway (a collection of short stories), and I'm currently reading The J.A.P. Chronicles, I'll quote the back with "After 17 years , the girls from Willow Lake Camp and reunite and find that some things have changed, while others will always remain the same. It's not very campy right now... but it's still a fun read. It's by Isabel Rose.

I haven't seen many of those but i'd have to say for me, Troop Beverly Hills always reminds me of camp, even though it isn't very campy during most of the movie.

Mine isn't a movie about camp, but it's a movie that always makes me think of camp...

Stand By Me

...when the kid cries, it sounds just like one of the kids I worked with my first summer, who talked about the same kind of stuff. I haven't watched it for a while, I'll have to make time for it!
