I know there is a lot of game shows on TV. But if you could compare camp to a game show what show would camp be like?

I think that it would have to be like a reality show where you can’t vote your campers off. Big Brother.. Every day you have different challenges that you need to over come. At the end you are sad to see your friend go!

It's funny you posted this because last summer all of our staff said our camp was like survivor because the counselors would have to survive the summer. We had challenges and stuff plus counselors would get voted off (fired) just like survivor!

haha no that was family double dare or one of those campfriend...wild and crazy kids just had teams of kids playing fun games in weird places w/3 hosts that were kind of like counselors. like one time they were at a waterpark and had to race down the waterslides while collecting flags attached to the sides or something like that. it was the best show ever!

Wild & Crazy kids is the perfect game show to describe camp!

Haha I remember that show- one of the hosts also hosted an arcade game show from like early 90s and the winning team had like a virtual competition where they were "inside of the video" hahaha

Wild and crazy kids is definitely the game show that equals camp. But if we start talking sitcoms.. Salute your shorts anyone?

AAAH! I remember salute my shorts! I LOVED that show. Oh the memories. It also definatley reminds me of Survivor especially when girls in your unit start fighting with each other.

Salute your shorts was great. I wonder if any of the counselors on this board are like the one from that show? He was a crazy counselor.

Honestly the closest game show to camp aside from Wild and Crazy Kids is Singled Out. I dont know about you guys but since i was in the 6th grade division there was always that desire for action. Ive pulled some of the stunts from salute your shorts in my years at camp.... on a side note does any one remember the show Bug Juice (all i can say is that was no way a real camp no cursing or sexual tension or even breaking of the rules)

omg bug juice!!! i was obsessed. and yes, they are all real camps cause there's a guy that works at my camp that used to go to highlander and there was a girl who went to my high school that was on the 3rd season-but I don't remember what the camp was called(and from waht i've heard it has since closed down).

Haha this is so funny. During training the staff (especially returning staff) talked about how much camp is like reality tv. or a soap opera. That you can do something and 30 mintues later the whole staff knows about and they all have their own opinions on it and you have no idea how it all got around. What i thought was even crazier though was like after 6 weeks of knowing the staff one of them told me he thought i would be great to go on like survier or something. He was like "yeah the first time i met you and my first impression of you was 'she would make a good contester on survior or big brother of something. nobody would vote you off'". i took it as a complement but ive never had somebody tell me that. ok well i think i went down a rabbit trail with that but oh well!

yeah Waziyatah is a very high regarded camp and i knew someone who went to Highlander. and of course there was all that stuff speedx5racer...they just didn't show it to you in most cases since it was a show for kids. how i wish they'd do another season...

Survivor is a good one. And I like singled out as well... because the staff always seems to be eyeing somebody. Also, it's funny because by the end of the summer you're completely attracted to someone who you were not at all attracted to at the start of the summer. And, certain staff members have "dated" like 8 different counselors by the end of the summer. Oh the joys of summer camp. haha.

Jepordy. (sp?)

As staff we have the answers/solutions to so many things but it's only when we figure out what the questions are, which often comes down to the kids, that those answers become realised, valued and understandable.

I never thought of camp like that! Your right Echolaker.

I never thought of camp like that! Your right Echolaker.

It was a little deep ! Don't know where I dragged it up from !

It's just one way I see it.

I think one thing that shows just how much we know as staff; once the buses have pulled away for the final time, and you know what you've just acheived.

The campers maybe don't literally ask questions (though sometimes they certainly do!), but they challenge us in all sorts of different ways.

We have skills, compassion, humor, communication, maturity, wit, playfulness - some of the skills we can't define as an answer until we have the question asked of us - once we know the question - our answer goes into autopilot.

"Compassion, humor, communication"
"How do you deal with your 15 year old camper sobbing on reprise night?"

haha echolaker, thsat reminded me of something i heard the other night. i was out for dinner w/a camp friend who had been w/some other camp people a couple of weeks ago and she said they played "camp jeopardy" which was not really a game show but just spitting out funny facts about camp. haha.
