We have a chat room added to the site! I bought a copy of Flash Chat last night. I installed it and it's working. There's one problem though. Considering I'm a camp counselor and I don't make a lot of money, I can't afford the best hosting around. Therefore, I had to disable a lot of features on the chat to hopefully cut down on the server resources it uses. Also, we should try and have less than 20 people in the chat at one time because any more may slow down the server as well. Maybe one day we can get better hosting, and I'll be able to re-activate some more features. But for now we're using the bare bones. (Just so you know, donations are always accepted via PayPal. Just send them to DarkWarriorXII@comcast.net).
Anyway, now to explain the chat software. To access the chat, simply go to http://www.talkcamp.com/chat/index.php. For some reason I couldn't get to it if I didn't include the index.php, so put that in there just to be safe. Now you can log in with your forum username and password. Hopefully it'll work. If not, try again. That's all there is to logging in. To log out, click the little red circle at the top right of the chat. Or type /logout as you would a normal message.
The main room is the Counselor Lounge. For now, that's the only room. Here you can talk about anything, camp-related or not. The same rules as the forum still apply. So no profanity, flaming, etc. Sometimes you might see another room listed, or I might make an announcement about a special one opening up. To join another room, type /join "roomname" (without quotes) just as you would a regular message in the chat.
Some other useful commands: To clear the chat screen, type /clear. This only clears the screen for you, so don't worry thinking it cleared everyone's screens. Another useful command is the /me command. Anyone experienced with IRC already knows what this does. You use this command to tell everyone you're doing something. For example, I'd type "/me is excited about camp". In the chat room, it would come up as: "Dave is excited about camp". So it replaces "/me" with your username. I'm not sure if this feature is available, but if you want to ignore another user, type /ignore username, replacing username with their username. To take away the ignore, type /unignore username.
If you have any questions, feel free to post them here. Again, this is the bare bones of the chat software. There's so much more we can do with it, but I had to disable all the cool features to save server resources. It's still a fun chat though! Check it out.
