I am volunteering up at my camp for Winter Camp which is a one week session just like summer camp, but with a few different activities, one of those activities is a cabin decorating contest and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas? I figure I will bring Christmas lights, and paper so the kids can cut snowflakes, but what else?

yeah, winter themes are good.
you could do anything really. fairy's, flowers, sports, stuff like that...umm, or maybe something like friendship, love, togetherness...use inspiring quotes and such. i suppose it depends how old they are and whether they are boys or girls

Over the last couple of years I've done...
Charlie and the (sugar-free) Chocolate Factory [cos we're a sugar-free camp]
Space
Olympics,
But I've also seen
Pirates
Jungle
Under the Sea
Superheroes
I suppose it depends if it's for girls or boys.

You could go with a new years theme! Every day you can do a count down!

I don't know if you have a budget for this or whatever, but when I decorate my bunks each summer, I hit up party city, pick a theme and just go crazy with it. You can buy things quite cheaply, like paper plates and tablecloths which you can cut up to make insane decorations. This summer I went for Tiki hut theme, it looked awesome. As for winter stuff... how about taking some cotton wool which they could use to make 'snowmen'. Anyway, have fun!

I don't know if yall assign beds but at my camp we do(long story) and so we started making individual name signs on the doors and then putting smaller ones by their beds. This summer we used those animal plates and each animal was a different kid and then we put like leaves on all around the inside of the cabin with like rules and reminders and stuff and we put like green streamers in the doorways and our main sign said "Welcome to the Jungle" it was SOOO cute!
Otherthings I've seen are "Cabin 5 is where the heart is" and everything is themed around hearts. and I've seen like Wizard of Oz stuff and the name things are glittery red shoe cut outs and they put yellow butcher paper on the porch(but it doesn't last long cause people walk on it..), hmm what else.. Oh someone did the secret garden and everything was flowers. under the sea is always a good theme to use- you can do stuff similar to the jungle one but make everything blue lol. I can't relaly think of anything else right now because it's late.. but it's alway good to let the kids help decorate the cabin. Like have stuff ready for them and let them glue it together or add glitter or color it.

we assign beds to our lower camp girls w/the name signs and stuff. and usually the color scheme is whatever the counselor likes, haha.
