What's it like? I have been a returning staff at a day camp, but never at a resident camp and I know at day camp it was nice to be a returning staff cause you knew what you were doing and stuff, but this year at my overnight camp I am worried it is going to be really hard to be a returning staff because there will be new staff and nothing will seem to be as good as last year, or maybe it will be better, I just don't know what to expect!

That's pretty much how it is... But personally, I love the new staff. The best part of precamp for me is getting to know new people, and telling them all the great camp stories without scaring them too badly... And a lot of things never seem as good as "last year" or "when I was a camper"... but change is good, and you'll come to accept it!

you will love being a reterning staffer. like you say you'll know what to expect and what to do. the new staff will look to you to help them and you can share all the wonderful experiences and things you know with them. yeah it will be different but not necessarily worse than the year before. of course i had favourite summers but each one was special in its own way. i met my best friend in the world my 4th summer.....and i saw my co-counselor from my first summer last week. each year brings something new and great

it will be awesome!!! think of each summer as a different experience, not "better" or "worse." your director will probably want you to help new staff get involved, you'll get to help carry the camp in the first few weeks b/c you know the ropes!

This year I was returning staff and it was even cooler than my first summer. I loved knowing what was going on and having seniority on things like picking better activites to run or getting to pick my time off first. Also the kids remember you and it's really cool. You'll feel a lot more comfortable at camp as a returner, even if you spent all of last summer there and went there as a kid it's definitely a new experience every summer. It was my 11th summer at any camp and definitely my best ever. Be excited!

I've really enjoyed being returning staff. You know the rules, the traditions, and the kids if a lot of them return. Every summer is different. Some things will be better, others will be worse, still others just different. It's odd the first few days because it feels just like coming back home, like last summer just picked up where it left off, and yet there are some different people. Just make sure you take time to get to know the new staff, and it should be great being a returner.
