Words about camp...

Every now and then, you come across a piece written about camp that just hits home. For me, I stumbled on one in a friend's away message today, about our home camp, Camp Green Eryie. It made me tear up and I thought who better to share it with?

And the little girl turned to the older girl, and asked, "What is an eyrie, anyway? And why is our's green?"

The older girl smiled and answered, "An eyrie will hold you forever, safe and warm; it's a home for little eagles, who will grow into bigger ones, beautiful and strong. You are a little eagle, and you will soar to new heights, and in the air, when you feel that the wind might let you fall, you will remember the green of the trees and the songs that we sang, and you will remember that you came from an eyrie, and it was green. It will always be here, holding you safe and warm, here in your heart, wherever you may go, whatever you may do, whomever you become."

We are from an eyrie, and it is green.

wow thats awesome! we have some lines like that about our camp:

thanks campfriend!!! it definitely takes talent to write our songs. i'm an amateur haha i've written some group songs for the younger kids. the color war songs and the group songs for the older kids are written mostly by alumni in their 30's or older plus our music director. the alumni who write come up during group sing week and color war to teach the songs to the kids. it's very special and very traditional! i'm practicing writing some alma maters. the second that i think the writers have found every way to say "we love you blue ridge" they come up with another one and i still can't think of any! haha!

I always think these things are bittersweet-you love them because they are so true and beautiful yet dont because it gives that wanting of returning :)

camper it will come to you eventually i promise!! when I was younger the only thing I could do was chorus and the longer I've spent going to camp it's become my special talent lol. my friends always make fun of me but then they come up to me and ask me to write their cabins songs lol. :::gloats and stares at herself in the mirror::: lol jk

haha loofa...i can write group songs, especially cheers, really well and that's b/c the words are like "we're the best group, we're number one, you can't beat us" haha as opposed to the more serious group marches for the older kids and color war songs...it's REALLY hard!
