Does your day camp have late stays? Our camp does for kids ages 6 and up. Each age group has one day per summer.
I could make it two years ago, but I went to the late stay last summer. First the counselor were all given schedules of what we going to do. Then we went to the pool for some swim. After that we went to the cafeteria for dinner. It was just like lunch except we got soda. Campers were only allowed one can of soda, but counselors could have as many as they wanted. After that we went back and got our bags and went for the busses. We went over to the International Sports Center, where the kids could play in the arcade, go roller skating (or blading), play soccer or basketball, or go in some maze/play area thing (the "Fun Zone"). I was with some of my kids roller blading first. Then we went into the "Fun Zone". It was fun until one of my kids fell off of the tarzan swing and hit his head. By this point the late stay was over and his parents were there, so I handed him over to them.
I also have a story about our late stay last summer. All the kids in our bunk were signed up to stay for it, except one. Well our kids came up with a plan to get him to stay for the late stay. What they did was, when the rest of the camp was going to the busses, they had him go somewhere else in the camp and hide for a while. He did. Well none of us could find him, and every kid we went up to said that he went with the advocate in our bunk to the busses. Advocates aren't allowed to take kids without telling a counselor so we got suspicious and searched the area. We couldn't find him so we assumed he must've gone to the bus. As it turns out, he went halfway across camp to hide. When we were going to swim, I started talking with him (I completely forgot that he wasn't supposed to be with us). Then it dawned on me that he wasn't supposed to be here. So I told my division head. Well she blew a fit. First they called his parents to tell them that he stayed and he wouldn't be coming home on the bus. Luckily he lives near one of the other kids in my bunk so they offered to give him a ride home.
To make matters worse, our senior counselor was absent that day. So we took all of the blame. When he came back the next day he was upset with us, but by the end of the day he forgot about it. In the end though, everything worked out so that's good.
Enough about that. Does your camp have late stays?
