I work at a Christian camp which generally scheduales about an hour and half per day to Christian Education. We're given a booklet by the United Church of Canada Camping Program full of ideas and stories to use during the week. All of which work great for our campers aged 9-16. However our youngest campers are 5-8 and the stories and lessons included in the book are far too advanced for them. Last summer I ended up reading Chicken Soup for the Soul stories to them and talked about helping, being a good friend, ect and how that relates to God.

Does anybody else have experiences getting younger ones to participate/listen during Bible study time. How do you modify the lessons so that they can understand and learn?

I worked at an aglican church camp one summer and we did CE ever day even with the younger campers - the kind of things we would do would be to tell the story of moses going to pharoh and then the kids had to make a table center piece inspired by that story - they made a snake out of warm fuzzies.

I have taught sunday school for a couple of years but we were lucky in that we specially designed manuals for each age group - so maybe you get hold of something like that and adapt the lessons to fit camp.
