End of Summer Staff awards.

I am just wondering, at you camp do you have a counselor of the year award? It?s so hard for me to ever want to pick just one. All of my counselors do such a great job every summer. I do a dinner at the end of the summer and give out fun awards but I don?t think I could pick one staff member to be the best.

We do funny awards like who will most end up in Jail.
Who will be the first to get married
and stuff like that

At our staff banquet they give out our gifts for that year and Superlatives (which are pretty funny awards and stuff). During the summer each week a different staff member was recognized for going above and beyond the previous week.

our end of the summer staff awards come in the form of being chosen to be "in" color war leading the camp. you can be chief, assistant chief, or a keyman, so that gives a reward to 10-12 counselors, depending on the summer. that also depends a little bit on age though as jc's pretty much never get it, but once you hit a certain age it's a huge honor!

We do have a counselor of the year award. I haven't gotten it yet though. We also have counselor of the week (COW) awards as well.

We have to Cow award. The counselors get to pick who it is. By the end of the summer almost all of the staff get it!

Some years we do superlatives in our staff yearbook, but I don't think we did last year. The year before that, I won Gossip Queen!

we dont have staff awards, however each week we give out camper awards. sometimes that can be really hard. towards the end i tried to think up of really funny awards for my campers...and i did give an award to my co-counselor (with the help of my CIT that week).

We have a Staff "Keeper of the Ashes" award that is chosen by the camp director and given at our staff campfire.
Every session we have a camper one to, that is chosen by majority vote of the staff and given at closing campfire.


My first two summers we did fun staff awards but last year the counselor who usually does it didn't have time and no one else organised it. I am going to take that on next year because i like them!:D

What is keeper of the ashes ?


"Keeper of the Ashes" is our camps award for the best camper. The best camper may not be the most helpful enthusiastic one, they may be the most improved ie: they were very homesick the first night and are now having a great time. They are voted on by the staff.

At our last night campfire the program director (me this year :D ) who is running the campfire has made and decorated a container and calls on the Unit Staff from the chosen girls unit to do a little speech, announce to the whole camp who it is and hand her the container. The next day at lunchtime i take the girl out to the campfire and she fills her container with the ashes of the last night campfire. And there you have it, she is the "Keeper of the Ashes".
The girls then bring back there containers year after year and at each fire, before we present the current K of t A, we ask for previous ones to add some of their ashes to the fire to keep the spirit going!

It's a neat tradition and i had alot of fun designing the Keeper of the Ashes buckets this year. :)

My camps have done WOW (worker or women of the week) at the end of each session the staff votes on who did a great job that week and deserves to be reconized it. I got it once because I had to clean out a outside closet with TWO dead mice and I had to worry about them being infected with... some kind of disease.

Durning a two week session at one of the camps we did awards for both the camper and staff in my unit. They were mostly silly like "H20 intollerated" or "Scary Counselor" which was what I got.

We have a weekly staff award of Staffer of the Week for each unit. We also have MVP at the end of the summer and Rookie of the Year. We give out the awards to usually 4 people (one from each unit). We also have the MVC award (most valuable camper) that counselors can actually recieve if they represent the ideals of being an awesome camper. MVC is the highest honor at our camp! We also have unit awards that the staff pass from one to another. And we have Affirmation Time during our staff meeting where we affirm people for doing good things during the week.

We love awards at our camp!

We don't have staff awards except for at the end of each session when the counselors do the coffee houses for their kids the unit leaders do superlatives for their counselors at the end. But outside of our area there isn't anything and I kind of wish there was- it would make it special if there was like a counselor of the summer or something I don't know? Occasionally they will do a staffer of the week in my area, but it's usually just because someone is kind of struggling to stay motivated and they need something to remind them how great they are. lol
