Ok code3 dude, I don't want to be mean or anything, but were you born and raised in the states? Because your spelling and grammar is not the greatest.

We also have a staff lodge where the support staff live, that has a livingroom with tv/internet, open bunks to nap, a full kitchen and shower house. Many will chill there or go into town to get off camp for their 2 hour breaks. For the longer breaks most leave camp to go out to eat or catch a movie. I spend as many breaks as I can at home so I can spend time with my husband.

Yes it's on the Western Coast. We have it in Arizona and it's also in California and Oregon, Nevada and Utah. Oh and Code3, that explains all of the spelling errors!! I was wondering about you for a minute there.

As for the comment about staff being out of the cabins at night. We must wait until our kids are all asleep before we leave our cabin. If they come out of the cabin after they've been sleeping and the person on duty can't handle the situation they can call the other counselors back. In fact, there are usually 2 or 3 people sitting with the on duty person because no one likes to sit out in the dark by themselves. It's never been an issue of kids being super homesick... and in the times that there were tons of kids homesick at once all the staff help out. Another side note- we don't leave the cabin the first night of a session.

As for the sleep thing, we have a 12:30 curfew and we get up around 8... so that's usually about 8 hours of sleep. If your performance suffers the unit leader can forbid you from leaving your cabin that night- which encourages you to sleep... but I guess you could also read or something- you just have to stay inside.

At the camps for my council we get two hours off a day and we aren't allowed to leave since it's a long drive into town so the camps have staff houses with at least a TV. The sessions are sunday to friday do friday night to sunday morning people either stay at camp and go into town to eat, see movies and go to the mall. Some go home.

We have a TV lounge, and a quiet lounge, but during the day on a period off, I usually like to take some down time and have a shower, around the cabin etc.

On a night off, we have a bus to take us into Honesdale, where you can go to the bar, but I usually like to go to the cinema, or chill out in Baskin and Robbins for ice cream, visiting K-Mart and Wal-mart for supplies.

On a day off, we choose where we want to go, but it usually has something to do with going to a local diner for breakfast, then maybe shopping in Scranton, or a bit further afield. There are loads of really nice lakes etc. nearby, so we go and flop down at a lake called Lake Wallenpaupack, or the Promised Land, or to Skinner's Falls in NY State...

I love days off :D

I wish our camp had computers. That would be so cool. :)

we have them on boys side at the hobby center, and counselors can sign up to use them to check email and stuff...usually international staff are the only ones that use it. the rest of us, if we have to use a computer quickly for something, we just ask my mom or the directors to use a computer in hq for a few mins.

We only have one computer for the staff to use and it is realllly slow. at first i felt guilty using it cuz i didnt want to take it "away" from the internationals...i mean im not that far away from home!

Well at night after staff transition (provided we weren't on OD!), we'd either:

1) Walk down the road 10 minutes to the local drinking hole and have a couple of drinks, a sing song, and a game of pool. (That place loves us during the summer!)

2) Go to the staff lounge and watch TV, play pool or check our emails.

3) Jump in to someones car and go to the local movie theater in Lake George (and probably grab a Ben & Jerry's down there).

We also had staff events every Friday after transition (where we had to stay on camp) that were organised by the camp- there was Dodgeball Tournament, Movie Night, Ice Skating Night (offsite), Bowling (offsite), and a night hosted by our TREK staff involving Climbing Wall, and general S'moring.
The other onsite night we had was where our 13 year old boys and girls transformed the Senior Village Lodge into a nightclub for the staff - they ran the "bar" area with sodas and smoothies, had a VIP area, Hot Tub, Dancefloor & DJ, strobelighting, fondue and a Poker Area.

With our rest period (about 2 hours in one block), we could again either go to the staff lounge, walk down to the Hudson River, or walk/get a ride down the road into the local town, grab a snack from Rite-Aid or an Ice-Cream from Stewarts.

On our full days off, our camp ran a staff shuttle into Lake George Village for those that wanted to utilise that - others jumped in cars going to Montreal, Albany, Lake Placid, Vermont, and stayed in Hotels/B&B/Motels for the night. Our Greyhound stop was walkable so our options were broader still.

On days off everyone just goes home... we've never had internationals or anyone that lived more than like 2 hours away that i'm aware of.

On nights off you'll generally find our staff at JB's (bar), Depot (club) or friendly's. There's also random running to the laundry or Wal Mart. We have a staff room with the internet but it's kinda run down. Most people use lap tops or come and get on my computer in the office.

Day's off were super ambitous and road trip it all over the place - I went to Boston, Hartford, Albany and somewhere in Vermot on different days.
