View Full Version : Homework help
So I'm starting a Teaching Non-traditional sports and games class on Monday and since I am traveling to Arizona this week and missing my first class my professor gave me my homework assignment early but I kinda need some help with it and figured I would check with you guys first before I go ordering any books from our main campus library (my campus is so small we don't have one). So any who does anyone have any interesting Trust activities (you know different from wind in the willows, trust falls, trust walks, and such)

Hey Melk,
You should check out ultimatecampresource.com they have collected a ton of camp activities, including teambuilding and trust activities.
I play a game called Rattle Tag all the time with campers and teambuilding groups:
Have everyone form a cirlce and choose two volunteers to stand in the middle. One volunteer is blind folded and the other is given a rattle (usually an empty water bottle with some pebbles in it). Everyone forming the circle puts their hands up as if spotting. Once the first person is blind folded the person with the rattle begins to shake it and tries to avoid the blind folded person who is trying to tag them. They have to stay inside the circle, and you can make the circle larger or smaller depending on how much trouble the blind person is having tagging the rattler. Once caught, I usually have them choose the next two participants to enter the cirlce.
You can then debrief about how it felt to be blind folded in the circle
If they thought it would be easier than it actually was
How important the rest of the group forming the circle were
All sorts of stuff...
Good luck!

We did something at camp called Car Beep Beep - I guess it is a form or trust walk but it was fun.
People paired up and and stood one behind the other. The person in the front closes their eyes and the other person places a hand on each shoulder. When they take their hands off the shoulders the person has to walk forward, to make the person turn you tap the shoulder of the direction you want them to go. if you want them to stop you bring your hands down onto their shoulders. If they are going to close to someone else you can make them go Beep Beep by tapping them on their head.
I know a load of others ones and I will look for them tomorrow and post them if I can find any.

Rattle Tag is the same as Snake in the Grass (or maybe its called Snake and Hunter -- I don't remember) but we play it all the time

I know it is stretch but to my way of thinking, getting to know you games are trust games because you need to know people to trust them, but more than that depending the game you need to trust people to play the game.
For example, the toilet paper game. If you are playing it with a group of people who have only just meet the level of personal details that you would share would be alot less personal. If you played in the middle of a session of trust games people may be developing trust of each other and they may share more personal stuff, and if you played it at the end of the session it may be different again.

How is the assignment going?
I am not sure what this game is called but given the definition below it might count as a trust game. Take a lenght of rope (it should be long enough for each member of the team to hold it - the bigger the team the longer the rope) and tie a number of simple (and for older children - not so simple) knots - at least one knot for each players. The participants then line up along the rope. The goal is for them to untie all the knots. The only rule is that ALL players MUST keep one hand on the rope at ALL times.
Here is some stuff form a book I have.
"Let's Play Co-operative Games" by Terrry Watson
He says that any game that requires the participant to work with a partner or a team to reach the objectives of the game can be classed as trust games because you need to trust that your partner/team mates will be be able to do their part to reach the objective.
Arches:
Each member of the group finds a partner of equal height and stand facing each other about3 feet apartputting their hands together they lean forward and take some of their weigh in their hands. When they are balanced they move a step backwards. The aim is too see how far apart they can move whilist still supporting each other.
Come to me:
The groups slits into partners and one person in each pair is blind folded, and lead to the far end of the room. The other players must guide their partners to them by calling directions to them.
Laps:
Every one stands in a circle shoulder to shoulder, they all then turn to face the back of the person infront of them. On the leaders command they all have to sit slowly so that they are sitting on the laps of the person behind them while having the person infront of them sitting on their laps.
Hope these are of some help you.
Thanks for your help all. The assignmet is going well it has 3 parts to it and I have 2/3 of it done. I missed the first day of class so I could go to the grand canyon with a fellow camp counsleor. It was great... good thing I have sweet profs.

Glad its going well - and now we have these games here for others to use too.
I definately think that if you have understanding profs then the Grand Canyon is worth missing a class or 2 for. Wish I could go back there - may one day I will.
So I'm back and need some more help for my homework. For one of my classes (different from the one I started this thread for) we have to write up 14 facilitation plans. 2 for each category. One of them is dance. I already have one great plan written up to teach tango. But I have no idea what my other dance should be. Does anyone have any suggestions or links to web sites that can help me out?
Thanks team you rock!

i would say keep it simple and teach something you know. I was going to suggest a scottish country dance but while I could demonstrate how to teach it I dont know if i could write it.
How is the other assessment go?
it is going well. I only have 5 more games to add then have to make my book out of allll the games I have
