Do any of your camps offer "classes" for the kids to sign up for?
If so, when do the kids sign up for the classes? What kinds of classes are offered? and How do the kids sign up?
I am working to try to "perfect" our system of class sign up.
Here is a little background for how we did it last summer (it was our 1st summer to do this)
One week we has seperate sheets of paper for each class and the girls went a put their names on the sheets and then several of us stayed up really late imputing their schedules into the computer and made attendance sheets.

another week we just gave each girl the full week schedule and the circled what they wanted to take and then we made "mini highlighted" schedules to give to the girls.

So..any help and insight would be great as to how other camps do this.
thanks a million!

At the camp I am going to the girls only have a few hours a week where they actually sign up for activities of there own choosing (nopt sure how it works yet having never been there before) - the rest of the week we have a meeting with the girls to see wha they wanna do and plan a schedule and they go to everything as a whole unit.

our girl have options once a day and it's different each day, we take around a sign up sheet at the meal before their options period and sign everyone up, starting with a different bunk each day so everyone gets first picks evenly.

We have skill first thing in the morning. (They choose 2 skills, and alternate those days).
Then there's cabin choice. (Cabin goes together; cabins rotate through all the activities).
In the afternoon are the two sign-up periods.
Before dinner we have "sell the sizzle". Sell the sizzle is when the programmers put on a short skit or song or commercial to promote their sign-up for the following day. If you want more detail on sell the sizzle ideas, message me!
They sign up by telling their senior cabin counselor what sign ups they want, then all the senior counselors convene in the hall and sign their cabins up. It's a fast and somewhat hectic process for the senior counselors, but it's reasonably fair for the kids. We rotate through who gets fit in to the more popular programs.

I am not 100% sure how this works at my camp yet, but as I can gather on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings all staff (including kitchen and ad staff) have the opportunity to take classes in any subject (within reason!) On a Saturday staff put forward what they are willing to teach in the week ahead. They are then compiled and then the kids decide what they want to do on a Sunday. If a subject is not popular and there are not enough kids to run it then that member off staff is then deployed to help another member of staff. Not all staff have to take teach but those who want to are asked to prepare as much as possible before they come to camp.

I am going prepared to teach ceilidh (scottish country) dancing, inprov drama and general outdoor games.

Yes, at our camp we offer "chugim" to the older kids. Anything from advanced mountain bike skills, hacky sack, dance, pottery/raku... The campers watch an hours worth of skits done by the staff running the chugim. Basically, if you can dream it up, you can run a chug.

At one camp where I worked, they did it very simply: everyone gathered together, they announced everything that was available, then after the kids heard all the options, the counselor in charge of each activity stood up and asked who wanted to do it. Kids raised their hands, the counselor counted off until she had a full class, the next one came along, etc.

It's hard to believe, but everyone was generally happy. All the options were fun.
