Lots of people have mentioned on the packing threads that they would take activities for the campers.

Last year I took some Scoubies (Little plastic strips which we called lanyards at my camp in th eUS, lanyards at home are very different) and treasure hunts based in the ones we did on our camp training day.

This year I am planning on taking some "challende sheets" which we give to patrols during our weekly meetings to tell them what they have to do during the task/evening.

What else would people reccomend? Would you reccomend that an nternational take it due to bulkiness etc?

A CD rom of games you can play with the kids.

A rubber chicken.

A book or 2 for reading at night - i recommend something like chicken soup or Dr suess.

some word puzzles - you can make them on pusslemaker.com - which is a discovery channel site that has filters to avoid bad language accidently being created

We have a library at camp which has the most common books and also no computors that the campers are allowed to use, but the other suggestions I like!

that is cool that your camp has a library. I have to take my own books.

By library i mean a bookshelf, but it has the classics (curious George, Dr Suess etc) plus English childrens book dont tend to translate well to an American Audience, particularly for the youngest age group. For the oldest age group abviously you have Harry Potter, but I hink if i tried to read Enid Blyton to them we would have a problem!

true - i tend to stick with Suess - any excuse to get a new kids book. I got a really good one a few years ago but I am not sure where it is now, will prob take aesops fables aswell.

We have all of that stuff there, along with every craft item imaginable and then some! A teddy bear is a useful thing to take (we dont have a teddy bear library!)

As I am going to be teaching literacy on the academic programe at my camp I am taking loads of 'reward' stickers. They say things like "I worked hard today," "Good reading," "I worked my socks off" and " well done."

I took my sticker machine last year (and will again) It went down well with the girls, but even better with all of the staff except the arts specialist (in a kind of kokey way - she was arts, not crafts!) It was great, and provided hours of amusement!

Oh that is a good idea - i never though of taking mine. Did you take refils with you or get them over there?

I took two actually! My grandma had one and she hated it so, she let me have it for camp, so i didnt need to get any refils. I will this year though.

I have one of the little ones - will be perfect for taking to camp cos it isn't heavy or bulky - u know the ones shaped like an X. I got it for making sticky ribbin for cards but I really thinking taking it to camp is a great idea.

I got mine really cheap in Tesco cos I make alot of cards and crafts and stuff. My cards have been helping to fund my trip to camp this year by selling them.

unfortunately I started to late - more like a bit of extra pocket money to be honest - but every little helps. Will sell more next year cos I will have more time - i didn't think about doing it until about 3 weeks ago.
