I was wondering, is it pointless to take a book to camp? I want to read a book by myself but is it worth it? Is there enough time to or will it just take up unnecessary space in my bag?

I am a bookworm so I'll possibly go mad without one but I'll probably be reading to the kids so I may not have the time.

I highly reccomend a book. It might take a little longer to read than it would normally take at home, but it's good to have. It's nice to have something to read on time off, before bed or if you just happen to have a spare moment!

I better get some time to read as I am having the new Harry Potter delivered to camp when it comes out!

I'm a fanatic reader, but I remember my first summer at camp, I was astonished at how little reading I did. Two hours off per day were shortened by showers and laundry and trips to town; it was the only time to spend with friends as well; and it wasn't easy to find anywhere to read. The staff house was noisy, the sleeping area was too hot (and too near the kids). Me-time and after bedtime were taken up with counselor meetings and prep. But yes, take a book, or two! You'll probably want them if you don't bring them. Of course, if you don't want to carry them in your bags--just buy them here. New books are cheaper than in the UK--probably used ones, too.

I reccommend abook...sometimes it's just nice to get away from all the camp drama and the kids...although you might have to make time more than find it

yes! kids books are a great resource and entertainment! i like to read part of a book every night to calm everyone down- it also tends to become a solid way to unit the group without competion or problems

Yup! I read 4 or 5 books over 8 weeks last year - usually during rest hour, or at night when I was on call in the cabin. Barney's version, A million Little pieces, middlesex - lots of lighter reading... but nonetheless, i got a lot done.

I love reading too and managed to read during rest hour when the kids Had to be quiet lol I also used that time for letter writing which is another hobbie of mine :D! Anyone read any Sophie Kinsella books? i reccommend them to any women LOL! I didn't bring kids books last year but its a nice idea! might have a look at some in the states though if I don't find space to pack any!

I ALMOST made the mistake of ordering HP thorough Amazon.co.uk instead of Amazon.com. Immagine how long that would have taken to be delivered!

My friend in the USA is working at the same camp as me so she ordered my copy at same time as she ordered hers - so I will get mine the day it comes out.

I have yet to even read the first.... I actually own i think 3 dvds of HP and have sat through I think just the first one... I thought about starting it this summer but Im not sure I could get really into it? Not really a time issue, as I'd prolly have plenty but just now starting it and everyone talking about it... is it gonna be hard to get into it?

I love Harry Potter - I only got into them after my first summer at camp - but then got hooked.

Currently I am reading Camp by Micheal Eisner which is about his experiences at a boys camp in vermont, and about the experiences of kids he sent there through his charity.

My Mom sent that to me a few years ago in a care package. It's a good read.

I loved that book - i am trying to get my mum to read it - I got it really cheaply off of amazon Emz.

It is a great book for anyone who doesn't understand why we love camp or even why we want to do it in the first place!

I did get HP during the summer - we got permission to go the midnight book released - so went dressed in cloaks we had made in out free time. The only prob was got back to camp 3.30 am so had to sleep on a sofa in the staff house - and I had to get the kids up at 7am (but the intern with the other group in my unit did it for me as payment for getting her copy - so I go a sleep in until 7.30am) Guess what I would do it again!

I read a lot of comic books. I never knew how much of a genius Stan Lee was until I read Spiderman and The Punisher.

So far the coolest book I ever read was 4,137 Strange and Interesting Facts about World War II.
