Hey there,

Anyone here had any experience with taking online summer classes while at camp? I emailed my camp director and she said they have 2 available computers for night time use, and sometimes counselors will bring their laptops. My plan is to work on school work during my breaks.

I need one more summer class to satisfy my summer requirements at school (ick for going to one of the largest schools in the country). Its only 6 weeks, but those 6 weeks are all while I'm at camp. I'm a great student and I've taken a couple online classes, so I'm not worried about that situation. I just want to get some feedback from anyone who might have done this.

Thanks
Chrissy

Speed -- what's your major, if you don't mind me asking?

I haven't done it, but my first year, my co was doing her Masters thesis at the same time as being a counsellor and deputy unit leader, and in the middle of mine at the moment, I appreciate how hard that must have been!

I think the essence is discipline, with my co, she was working on periods and days off on her thesis, and had to to be really disciplined about it. I know that I for one couldn't do it, I need my down time at camp, but if you can do it, I would go for it!

A friend of mine tried it one summer and it was a struggle. It was for a class she had no interest in, which also made it harder. She managed to get through it, but I am sure her grade suffered a bit for it.

Just think about your average day and if you have time to do the reading, writing and discussion board responding that will be necessary...and how much sleep you are willing to sacrifice.

I did camp for credit last summer(just had to write a few different papers...not as indepth as an online class) and it was very much a tricky to stay on top of work, but managed it.

Well, I would do it for internship credits, but my camp doesn't start until mid-June, and the first assignment for internships is due mid-May. :(

I'm just in a bind because my school requires 9hrs of summer credit to graduate. BOO!

Wow, talk about bursting your summer camp bubble! There are several incredibly interesting classes down here that are only offered in the summer, you get to go to Mexico, Alaska, and a ton of other awesome marine environments so I guess I'm going to have to skip at least part of camp one of these summers to do some of them.

I wasn't able to get any schoolwork done over this past summer either. I read, but it was purely chick-lit. I don't know how motivated you'll be to sit down over your breaks and study when you could be sleeping, eating, or gossipping.
