Has any one ever worked at or had dealings with Camp Buckskin, Ely, Minnesota?

I spoke with one of the directors there today and I have a phone interview on Wednesday.

It's a camp for children whith ADD, ADHD, Autism and Aspergers.

I have never heard of the camp. Are those the kind of campers that would want to work with all summer? Somthing you migt want to think about.

Thanks for your concern campfriend! I work with these kinda kids through my college course placement and would love to work with them at camp.

I also work with a few physicaly disabled kids (who I assist feeding and toileting)and although I love working with them I know I couldn't do that in an intense camp situation where they also need alot of personal care.

As you go in to your interviews, I would make sure that you ask lots of questions so you can find out what the camp is like. I have seen counselors who have been mislead and end up having a long summer.

Don't worry, I have lots of questions! After being punched in the face and kicked a few times at school today by a 7 year old autistic girl, I feel like I could handle anything right now!

As far as I know the purpose of this camp is to work on the social skills of these kids. Simple things like turn taking, standing in line, making friends. Alot of the kids are highly intelegant and over achive but have no social skills what so ever.

Sounds like a great camp. I wish we could do more with all campers.

It's a pretty small camp (hence the reason for me askin about camp sizes, I wanted to compare it to non-special needs camps) with a high ratio of staff, so they are able to concentrate on social skills.

I had my phone interview today. It was supposed to last an hour but it lased for 2.5 hours and I am taking it as a good sign! I will know on Friday what the outcome is.
