I have two "big" announcements to make, as well as a few "little" announcements. Let's start with the big ones. I have installed a new feature, and added a new page to the website.
-----------------------------
The feature I installed is a member pages feature. What this does is it allows you to create a custom profile page, or a page for whatever you want. You're only allowed one though. There is a catch though. You must have 25 posts before gaining access to this feature. Trust me, it's easy to get 25 posts. After you make 25 posts you'll automatically gain access to this feature. To create your page, go to your User CP (http://talkcamp.com/usercp.php). Under the Edit Signature tab on the left will be a new tab called Create Your Userpage. Click it. You'll be taken to a screen that looks very similar to the screen you may see when creating a thread or post. Smilies and all the formatting you can do in posts are enabled here. You need not know HTML or PHP to create a page. In fact, you can't use HTML so that'll make your life easier. Anyway, you can put whatever you want on the page, as long as it's appropriate and follows our rules. Admins have the right to edit any pages they see unfit. Other than that, you can go crazy. I don't care if you use big red bold fonts the whole time. It's your page. (No camper pictures though!) You can edit your page when you're done as well. Just click on that same tab as before. It'll say Edit Your Userpage now.
Included with all userpages is a shoutbox. These are basically little chat boxes you can use to say something to the user. This is included by default.
I'll be adding the link for the list of members' pages to the navigation soon...
-----------------------------
The second announcement I want to make is concerning staff and applying to become staff. If you're interested in applying for a staff position here, you may fill out the Staff Application (http://www.talkcamp.com/application.php). Note that this form is updated and only currently available positions will be listed. If you don't want to apply for any of the positions listed, don't fill out the form. Wait until the job you want becomes available. Right now, the Writer and Promoter positions are available. Writers must be very knowledgeable in camp counseling. They will write many articles to go in our articles section. Promoter will promote out website to other camp staff, camps, and related websites. Note that if you are a promoter, and you spam other websites about our community you will be removed from this position. If you're accepted for this position you'll receive a PM from with more information about this.
-----------------------------
Another small announcement: The first Talk Camp newsletter will come out during the first few days of November. This will be a monthly newsletter with information about our website. As we hire writers, articles will be included as well. But that's not now. If you don't wish to receive this newsletter, go into your User CP, edit your options, and uncheck Receive Email From Administrators. This will take you off the list.
-----------------------------
I might re-arrange the forums a bit. To make the forum home less cluttered I might move some of the Specific Camp Counseling forums to the Other Camps forum as subforums. As those forums gain popularity, they'll be moved back out to the forum home. The forums that will probably be moved are the boy/girl scout forums, since they're really types of day/overnight camps. I'll update you when I do this.
-----------------------------
IRC? Anyone interested in this? Since we aren't really allowed to put up a chat room on the site (our host says no), IRC is the next option? If you have experience with IRC, we're on the Freenode network, channel #talkcamp. If the channel get some activity, I'll post a formal announcement describing more about this for those without IRC experience.
-----------------------------
One final announcement: Our community has really taken off these past few days. But if we want to grow even more (and have an even better time), we'll need more members. So get your friends to join! Remember, for every member you refer you get 100 Karma points! Sure the Karma system may not be too popular right now, but when it becomes popular, you'll be glad you referred those members!
-----------------------------
That's it for now! If you have any questions, feel free to start a thread in the Site Chit-Chat forum. I'll answer it ASAP.
