Community Adventure Training Initiatives (CATI) and Youth University is an experiential learning centre located within Brock University offering leadership and empowerment programs for adults, curriculum-based experiential learning programs for elementary and secondary school students, and an educational day camp program each summer. Trained facilitators guide participants through two hour to one week programs that may include curriculum-based experiential learning activities (science and the arts), group initiatives, cooperative games, and high/low ropes course and climbing elements. CATI/Youth University is open throughout the year to serve youth, educators, the Brock community, corporate, and non-profit groups. Each year CATI provides programming for more than 8 000 participants and growing.
Reporting to the Executive Director this position will hold primary responsibilities for all short programs of both CATI and Youth University. This represents approximately 3000 participants per year. The Coordinator will be responsible for the entire program from sales to delivery including: creating programs, marketing, sales, logistics and program facilitation. Groups include Brock students, corporate team-building, women’s only programs, community group programs, and school youth. Duties also include ropes course management during the spring season, as well as management of student staff. This position will work closely with two other senior staff responsible for residential field trips, and summer camps.
Specific duties include the following:
· Oversee the marketing, materials, sales, management, budget, logistics and staffing of all day programs.
· Oversee the ropes course during May and June (approximately 2700 participants will use the course during this time.
· Some group facilitation (university, adult, corporate groups, and some youth).
· New program development and design.
· Hire, train, and supervise university student facilitators through active feedback and mentoring.
· Maintain all aspects of risk management: including emergency action plans, safety policies, equipment logs and program documentation.
· Communicate with visiting group supervisors/guardians/special needs clients to ensure our programs are accessible and adapted appropriately to meet those special needs
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must be interested in both office and field work. They are organized, detail oriented, and able to multi-task. They will be able to work independently, take initiative, and assume full responsibility for their area while working collaboratively with other senior staff. They will have a positive attitude, and be open to learning. They will have a strong customer service ethic and be able to represent the university in a highly professional manner. They will be creative, resourceful and able to resolve conflicts. They must have strong written and verbal skills to communicate with clients and develop materials.
Required: The successful candidate must have experience with: climbing or high ropes course operations; facilitating or teaching in an educational setting; and program development and management. They will have: a University or College degree in a related field; an understanding of office and computer applications; first aid and CPR certification; and be willing to submit to a police check. The successful candidate must be open to some weekend work and a variable hour work-week during busy months.
An asset: Ontario teaching certification and experience with: corporate groups, special populations, risk management, and curriculum design.
