How long? Mine lasts 8 weeks. It usually starts toward the end of June and ends in mid-August.

I wish our camp lasted 10 weeks. That would be awesome. I always miss a week due to a summer vacation so having an extra two weeks would be great. But I don't think parents would want to pay even more money... :P

We have 4 2-week sessions (though we have 1- and 4-week programs too), plus one week of training and usually about a day of cleanup.

Mine lasts 9 weeks, 1 week is staff training, and then we have 4 camper sessions, each 2 weeks long, so 8 weeks of campers.

What's Family Camp?

Family Camp is a week of summer camp where instead of just campers come up, their whole family comes up as campers. We normally have around 30-50 families come up with kids anywhere from babies to teenagers. Half of the staff gets the week off and the other half work family camp. The counselors don't sleep in the cabins with the campers, but instead all the girl counselors share a cabin and all the guy counselors share a cabin. The families do camp activities and have campfires just like during regular summer camp. It's pretty fun! The same families keep coming back year after year. They love it!

That's interesting. Our camp does have a parent visitation day (we're a day camp, remember). I'm not sure to what extent the parents participate though, because every year I'm on vacation the week this takes place.

visiting day is different than family camp, dave. visiting day is still basically for the campers. at most camps, the parents play with the kids at their activities or are free to go to whatever activies they want during the day so the kids can showcase what they've been up to at camp.
a family camp is different because every member of the family is a camper and lives at camp for however long the family camp lasts. correct me if i'm wrong but i think most family camps happen at shorter-session sleepaway camps or after a longer-session camp's season is over.

I miss family camp! I am now at a day camp. It was so much fun to have the parents do some of the same activities that their kids do. Adults on High Ropes!! So much fun!! Family camp brings out the kid in all adults....

I think I understand. So the entire family stays at camp? Does this cost extra or anything?

it's not really a question of costing "extra"...family camps have a different price than regular camp. at a shorter session sleepaway camp, family camp is a separate session so it has a separate price for the entire family.

For 2007 my camp is adding a new session. Plus we have Family/Resort camp for two weeks after the regular camp ends, and about half the staff stay on for that.

A bunch of the returning staff are (myself included) are going in early for three weeks of pre-camp work crew, where we rake and paint and stuff.

All in told, I'll be at camp from May 14th - September 1st.

Pre camp for staff is 29th May - June 9th, internationals arrive 28th May.

Session I
Campers arrive , June 10th
Campers depart , July 10th

Session II
Campers arrive July 14thCampers depart August 12th

Campers can come to both sessions but their parents must take them home or stay in a local hotel or whatever between the sessions.

There is a break between the two sessions and the director tells me that most staff hire cabins on Lake Superior for 3 or 4 days. That sounds like a great idea to me!

I have just recieved my camp details so I now know my session status.

The length of sessions is 6 days.
And I get 48 hours off between each session.

I also get paid every 2 weeks which is a nice bonus.
